Section of new design for Velmore underpass arrives at the SO
A project to design a mural that aims to brighten up the graffiti-blighted Velmore underpass in Eastleigh is nearing completion, with a section of the finished piece being brought in for a final quality check.
The section of the mural, which was designed by Illustrator Denise Hughes with support from Eastleigh Local Area Committee (ELAC) and First Wessex Housing Association, was brought to the studios to be checked over by Denise and ELAC Senior Implementation and Design Officer Dave Francis.
The mural, which is being printed onto tiles by The Surface Design Studio, features a bustling park scene with Velmore Community Centre at one end and Fleming Park Leisure Centre at the other.
It also contains a number of flowers, bees, butterflies and other critters which were designed by youngsters local to the underpass in 2 workshops run by Denise at the Velmore Community Centre.
The idea behind involving local youngsters is that it will help to stave off future attempts at vandalising the underpass by making it a proud focal point of the community.
