Illustrator creates artwork for theatre production

 Aug 13, 2015

Illustrator Denise Hughes recently landed an exciting commission - to create the artwork for The Berry Theatre's Christmas production.

No stranger to working with the Hedge End-based theatre (Denise created the marketing visuals for last year's Christmas show Jack), the gifted illustrator was tasked with creating an image for this year's Little Red Riding Hood.

Working with the show's director Owen Calvert-Lyons and The Berry Theatre's Marketing Department, The Sorting Office-based illustrator set to work on the high-profile commission.

This re-telling of the traditional fairytale is written by award-winning Mike Kenny and features "an enchanting twist just perfect for age four plus and their grown-ups".

Marketing manager at The Berry Theatre Ellie Russell said: "Our Christmas show is the highlight of our year so we like to produce something special for its promotion and marketing. The brief was to make the artwork magical, enchanting - and not too scary.

"We have worked with Denise before; adore her artwork so knew she was the right person for this commission."

The result: A gorgeous illustration, in Denise's signature style, that is both delightful and captivating.

"Denise has designed a wonderful piece of artwork for Little Red Riding Hood," said Ellie. "We are delighted with it. It's exactly the right tone for our audience and will certainly capture their imagination which is exactly what we want it to do."

The Little Red Riding Hood illustration will be used for promotional and marketing purposes, including being featured on the front cover of The Berry Theatre's Autumn 2015 brochure.
