Exciting commission for pattern designer
Pattern designer and textile artist Mariska Parent has won a commission to create two new feature walls at the newly-opened Fareham Innovation Centre.
The talented artist, who works here at The Sorting Office, was invited to pitch ideas for the commission after her work was spotted at Eastleigh’s Tec Hub where she created a bespoke hand-drawn wallpaper for the hub’s meeting room.
The Fareham Innovation Centre commission will see Mariska design two different wallpaper designs, one for the meeting room and one for the business lounge. Both designs will be based on the history of the Daedalus site on which the new centre is located, plus Mariska will draw inspiration from the occupants of the offices who work in engineering, automotive, marine and aerospace industries.
Speaking about the commission, Mariska, said: “Creating my design for the Tec Hub was an amazing process; I am very happy that I can repeat this at Fareham Innovation Centre.
“I love working to commission and I enjoy the research that is involved on a project such as this.
“I believe that wallpaper should be site specific and acknowledge the history and heritage of the building and surrounding areas. I would love this commission to lead to more commercial commissions.”
The new designs are scheduled to be unveiled in July.
